The genetic revolution is upon us. If you would like to get a grasp on what is here now, what is coming, and what might happen in the field of genetics and medicine, I want to recommend a podcast and a related book. The Joe Rogan Experience is one of the world’s most popular podcasts. Joe regularly interviews scientists and people who shape our thinking about science. His May 9, 2019 interview with Jamie Metzl is an excellent example. You can access it here. It’s available both in audio and video. (There is some adult language.) Metzl’s recent book, Hacking Darwin, is a must-read for people who want an examination of the exciting and potentially horrifying field of genetic medicine and editing the genes of our children. Metzl is a techno-optimist but he is very informative and writes compelling prose.
